02The story
Everyone owns hundreds of things and still can't find the one they need, or prove what they own when an insurer or landlord asks. Ordning is a calm catalogue of everything you own, organized the way you already think about your home: by home, room and box. Add items with photos, then find any of them in seconds, including hands-free: say "Hey Siri, find an item in Ordning", name the thing when Siri asks, and hear the room and box it lives in.
Ordning began as an app for the developer's mother. She is getting older, she lives in a house, and going room to room looking for things is taxing on her body. Cataloguing her home meant she could stop searching. She isn't tech-savvy and doesn't have to be: she never opens the app. She asks Siri to find an item in Ordning, names the thing when Siri asks, and hears the room and box it lives in, without taking a step or tapping a screen. "Ordning" is the Swedish word for order, and the app is still built to its first user's standard: calm, legible, and kind to the person doing the looking.
